mobile friendlyBusiness apps went mobile in a big way in 2012 and the trend is expected to continue. With apps for business collaboration, productivity, and business processes, we can easily work while we are on the move.

In a new report, research firm Strategy Analytics says more than 200 million mobile workers will use mobile apps in 2013.

“The consumer mobile experience has taught mobile workers to expect, even demand, access to information and applications from anywhere using mobile devices,” says Mark Levitt, director of business cloud strategies at Strategy Analytics.

With so many apps available, how do you know which ones will waste or save time?

Hootsuite CEO, Ryan Holmes, shares some essential apps in Fast Company that will enhance productivity when you work on the go.

Brewster

This app is a personalized address book that pulls in contact info and other details from Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and your email. Using a “relationship algorithm,” the app automatically sorts contacts into favorites, trending, and other lists. It’s fully searchable by name, keyword, location, and photo.

Hootsuite

This is a great social media management app. It’s user-friendly and allows you to handle social media on the go. You can publish to multiple social networks, schedule posts for optimum times, attach files and photos, and shrink links. You can also set up streams for monitoring across platforms.

Dropbox

Dropbox is a must if you travel or are constantly on the go. It’s a seamless, cloud-based system to sync files across all of your devices automatically. You can edit from anywhere and your changes are saved and synced. You can also access deleted or older versions of files or designate certain files as favorites to make them available offline.

Trello

Trello makes to-do lists virtual and shareable. Tasks are represented in columns on a virtual corkboard. You can add as many tasks as you want and customize them with comments, checklists, and attachments. You can also bring in other team members and assign them cards or drag them from one list to another as a project moves along.

Evernote

You can’t have a mobile app list without Evernote. It’s a cloud-based note-taking app and helps you stay organized because it instantly recalls reminders or ideas you’ve saved. You can put photos, voice memos, attachments, clips from the Internet, or typed and handwritten notes in the app. It makes everything searchable, shareable, and accessible across all of your devices.

UberConference

This app allows you to make conference calls on the go. You select attendees from your phone’s contact list, and it will automatically call, email, or text them to join. When you are on the call, the display shows photos and social profiles of all callers, and indicates who is speaking at any given time. Its drawback is it doesn’t allow you to schedule calls in advance.

In today’s digital age, it’s important to be able to be productive while on the go. It can be frustrating when you find you don’t have the file you need, but with the right apps, working while on the move is a little easier.

What are your favorite apps for staying productive on the go?
