We may have regrets or guilt over our past and we need to let these go because they are circumstances that we may not be able to change.
We may also be anxious about the future and what will happen to our families, our businesses or us.
When we are able to let go of the past and realize that most of what we are anxious about will never happen we can begin to just focus on where we are now: The present moment.
Here are some reasons why we need to let go of the past, not worry about the future, and practice living in the present moment.
Living in the Present Moment Creates Better Relationships
When we are living in the present moment our relationships are better than we possibly imagined. We enjoy people more, and because we are present, they enjoy us more as well.
This goes for business or personal relationships. When someone just sits with me and looks me in the eye with no distractions, I feel valued. We can do the same for others to build even better relationships.
Enjoy the Day and Every Moment of It
When we let go of the past and stop worrying about the future, we can experience living in the present moment. This makes life more enjoyable. We enjoy our work. We enjoy our people. We enjoy our friends. We enjoy every relationship more.
We notice and observe people, our environment or situations more. We can take it all in because we are not distracted by anything else.
Develop a Great Family Life
When we are focused on our spouses, significant others and family members, they feel valued. They sense when we are distracted by the past or worried about the future. When we are focused on them, in that moment they feel appreciated.
There is no greater gift we can give to our families than to turn off the phone, give them all of our attention and just be with them in the present.
Generate a Flourishing Business
We have the ability to have a sense of relaxed focus when we are living in the present moment – undeterred by the past or the future. We achieve more in the moment because we are not in bondage to guilt or anxiety or other thoughts.
Since we are only focused on what we are currently working on, that task receives all of our brainpower, all of our creativity, all of our passion and purpose. When we can focus like that we increase the odds of creating a flourishing business.
We have the ability to be at our best by living in the present moment, because all of our attention is in the here and now. Are there other reasons why living in the present moment works for you?
